You Have Woven Us A Blanket

[Back to Thinkabout...home]

What is this all about?

In December 2002, our family was involved in a motor vehicle accident which could have had tragic consequences. Instead, it initiated a excellent demonstration of the extraordinary spirit of community we share in the North. We would like to remind everyone of this incredible story, and honour here the people who helped...

Letter to the community

Newspaper article from time of accident

As a singer-songwriter, a song is one way I can thank the community...

In a gesture in keeping with the giving spirit of our community, Plughead Productions (Whitehorse, Yukon) owner Jay Burr donated the time to record and produce this song--thanks Jay!

Andrea McColeman provided harmony vocals and piano. The Rodden-Bourque family did the thank-you and merci at the end.

Some time ago, we found ourselves in troubled times
Side of the road, stranded there with life and limb on the line
Blinded by accident, not knowing what to do
Hurting in the darkness, then your light came shining through

You welcomed us in, strangers into family
In what could have been, nothing less than tragedy
Though we parents were swept away, our kids were safe and warm
Sheltered by your loving care in the middle of the storm

Dear friends we are blessed to have you there
You have woven us a blanket made of love and care
We felt warm and safe beneath it in our time of need
You wrapped us in the real security -- of community

Days rolling by, grounded almost helplessly
Couldn't help but cry, at how you gave us time and energy
Fine food and firewood, Christmas gifts and telephone calls
And now from deep within our hearts we want to thank you all

Dear friends we are blessed to have you there
You have woven us a blanket made of loving care
We felt warm and safe beneath it in our time of need
You wrapped us in the real security -- of community

Thank you, merci

Oh, what a wonderful gift to give to us
You showed us the true spirit of Christmas
In this crazy world it's a reassurance
That here at home, we live that spirit all year long

We want to express, gratitude for all the love that you've shown
We truly are blessed, to call the Yukon home
Taking care of each other, Northern hospitality
The security blanket of a real community

Dear friends we are blessed to have you there
You have woven us a blanket made of love and care
We feel warm and safe beneath it and like this we can be free
You wrap us in the real security -- of community

Northern hospitality
Thank you, merci
